I’ve been going to this neighbor lady to get food. Her name is Ani. She recently noticed that I have something wrong with my mouth and couldn’t eat anything hard. She started making really soft food for me, so I could eat. Then when it got really bad she took me to a very scary place. She called it the “vet”. I behaved like a complete gentleman the whole time. They kept me over night, and did surgery on me the next day to fix the boo-boo in my mouth. I’m healing now and can eat much better. They also fixed a wound I had on top of my head. That’s healing too, even though it makes me look silly.
The “vet” lady discovered something scary as well. She said I tested “positive”. At first I thought she was talking about my good looks, but then it turned out to be for a virus called FIV. It’s like having kitty aids. It is not contagious to humans, but it is so to other kitties. Ani has 4 spoiled kitties, so I can’t stay with her. I’m heart broken and need help. I could be living a nice long life, but I need to be the only cat and I need to be kept indoors. Oh, by the way, the “vet” also chopped my manly parts, now that hurt…!
Will you help me? I need a home. I want to live, and I want to be happy again. I promise to be very loving and compassionate.
Thank you so much,
Pasha

For Pasha (and your beans) -
FIV is not a death sentence, and does not mean you can't live with other kitties. About the only ways to get it are bite wounds, ones bad enough to draw blood, or (rarely) from the mother.
Best Friends, Cornell Vet College and a bunch of other places have info on FIV.
Good luck.
